On February 21, a European Railway Innovation Summit was held at the headquarters of the SNCF group, as part of the French Presidency of the European Council. The entire sector was present at this conference day, which closed the European Year of Rail. As a sign of the growing awareness of the impact of freight transport on the economy, the territories and the environment of EU member countries, the subject of rail freight was well and truly present in the conferences which took place throughout the day.
Multimodality - with the example of rail motorways - and Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC) were also highlighted in the exhibition space, through explanatory panels, Rail Freight Forward Innovation videos from the “Future of Mobility Campaign”, a mock-up of wagons allowing horizontal loading of semi-trailers on rail motorway trains, as well as a complete DAC, consisting of a head coupler in 3D printing mounted on an energy absorption module.
